Modern Solids Block of the Month

I am super excited to have partnered up with my local quilt shop, Five Eighth Seams, to design and run a block of the month! We thought a solids sampler would be a great first BOM for the store. Note: I am not claiming to be the first to ever do a sampler out of solids. I just picked the blocks and colors for this specific quilt myself. There are definitely some other beauties out there.

Anyway, this BOM is designed for quilters of all skill levels to make a gorgeous 74 x 91" quilt and grow their skill set! Don't live in Charleston, but your interest is spiked? Five Eighths will totally ship full kits to you. I know, they are great.

I meant to post about this weeks ago, but somehow it got away from me. The first kits came out this past Friday and it was a little chaotic. Definitely a bit of a learning curve there for us. I am really excited to be working with real people though. Haha. That sounds so weird, but most everything I do within the sewing community is over the internet. I am having a blast in a shop setting! These are the January blocks.

Although I am a week late, you can still totally sign up if you are interested. There is no registration deadline. You can read more about the details on the Five Eighths Blog, register online, or give the shop a call to learn more. I am thrilled to take my first adventure into teaching!! Fingers crossed that it goes well! :) Happy sewing!

Around the Color Wheel: Grey

I received these beauties before I left for Disney with my family, but was so insanely busy that I didn't have time to post about them. I didn't even have the pleasure of opening them! I am so happy Tammy picked grey for January.

Kona has come out with some amazing new colors in the grey family. Graphite is the PERFECT grey. Everyone used to swoon pretty hard over Coal, but I always thought it had purple undertones that stood out too much to me. Charcoal is the ultimate dark grey. I had a bit of a love affair with Ash, but someone pointed out to me that its undertones were very tan. Iron is just utter perfection for a light grey. And Silver! I never even knew I needed Silver. There are times when I want a light background and Snow really is too bright, but all the greys are just too much against the prints. Silver is just barely grey but not as in your face as white. I can't wait to make a quilt with it!

If you missed this month's Around the Color Wheel bundles, you can find them at Marmalade Fabrics! I am loving watching my sad stash of solids grow!

My Gypsy Wife: Part 3

I got all of the blocks up on my design wall and started arranging them according to the pattern. The quilt just started to grow.

And then I started to add the strips.

The piecing process was definitely unique. It tested my abilities as a quilter for sure. I now feel rather confident when it comes to partial seams though. I have a feeling that this will be my new favorite couch quilt. Or at least a very solid contender for the Good Folks Quilt (my current couch quilt). Happy sewing!
